Don Dettke suggested an idea (#5034) · Mar 09, 2020 at 08:04 PM · notificationsreservation
We receive user complaints that they don't get enough notice that their reservations are expiring and they lose them before they can request an extension. There is the option to modify the "Before End" notification time for a reservation but they often don't do that and just get the default value.
While the appropriate default "Before End" notification time for a reservation that lasts a few hours might be 15 minutes, that little notice usually isn't at all helpful for a reservation that lasts days or weeks. Likewise, a notification time of two days might be appropriate for a reservation that lasts a few weeks but it obviously doesn't work for a four hour reservation.
I think it would be much better for the default "Before End" notification time to be specified as a percentage of the reservation length (or remaining time, in the case of a reservation extension.) For example, a Before End notification time of 15% would provide an 18 minute notice on a two hour reservation or a 3024 minute (50:24:00) notice on a two week reservation.

Hi @Don Dettke, thank you for the suggestion and for raising the problem your users are facing.
We will think what's the best solution for the issue you raised, in the meantime i can suggest that you consider changing the default value of the before end notification in the customer configuration (https://help.quali.com/Online%20Help/0.0/Portal/Content/Admn/Wrk-wth-Cnfg-Ky.htm?Highlight=Setting%20email%20notification%20defaults%20for%20sandboxes#_Reservation_Email_Options) to something longer than 10 minutes.
the relevant key: <add key="ReservationEmail.NotificationMinutesBeforeEnd" value="10"/>

Hi @Dan Michlin, We could make the default notification time 2 days so reservations that last on the order of weeks would get an appropriate notification but then everyone that has a reservation that lasts less than 2 days wouldn't get any notification. That's the basic problem. It's impossible for a fixed default time for the notification value to be appropriate for both long and short duration reservations, and why I think a percentage is the best way to specify the default value. That could be translated to a specific time value when the reservation is initiated or extended. Users could still modify that time value through the current advanced edit interface if they want to but having the default be a percentage should always be able to provide a reasonable value.
