There are times that a driver needs to force information to the end user on the Web Portal. Perfect example of this is to show the user an error message, or detailed status.
The output window is a perfect method to display this information, but we are missing an API call to open (raise) the output window. So our (driver writers) messages stay hidden in the un-opened output window.
We need an API call to open (raise) the output window.

Hi @daklinge
In CloudShell 8.0, the Output toggle button will have a badge icon with the "missed" number of messages, same as the Activity button has. This can help as well to let the user know that there is content he can watch.
Also, for the purpose of error messages - it depends on your flow, but if your command will raise an error before it ends - the user will see that in the portal like any other error message (message coming down from the top and stays there until you close it).
If it's a resource/service you can also set the live status (using the api) of the resource an "Error" and set some custom description about the error. You can also set the reservation live status if needed.

I'm happy to update that this idea is planned for the upcoming release

In CloudShell release 2022.1, we delivered the ability to auto-open the console for any new activity in the UI, so end users will be notified when output is written to the console. Please see the What's New section in the product documentation for details.
