Dan Klingler suggested an idea (#1189) · Mar 29, 2017 at 07:00 PM · apicloudshellsandbox
Would like to have a method added to the CloudShell Sandbox API, that will return the tile image (artwork) of a given blueprint.
Yaniv Kalsky commented · Apr 01, 2017 at 12:38 AM
Hi @daklinge,
Can you add some details about the use case here?
Also, not sure if it helps or ideal for your case, but you can use the Quali API to export a package of a blueprint (same as if you go to the blueprint menu and export a package from there). This will then give you a zip file with the all the information about this blueprint, one of the files inside will be the blueprint tile image (in the Topologies folder).

Here's the use case. At Cisco DevNet we have a customer facing implementation of CloudShell. There are different web pages within DevNet that use the Sandbox Tile image as a direct link to a CloudShell blueprint. Here is such a page: https://developer.cisco.com/site/iox/. If you go to the section "Test your code in the IOx Sandbox", you see a tile image.
But now we have TWO copies of the tile image. One in CloudShell, and one for the web page. And now we have the problem of the images getting out of sync.
If you could provide us a CloudShell Sandbox API call that would return a blueprint's image (or a pointer to the image), then the web page could dynamically call the API to display the image that is currently associated to the blueprint. There would only be ONE copy of the tile image - and thus would eliminate the issue of being out of sync.
Thanks for the use case @daklinge.
I'm not sure if anonymous users browsing to the link above, should have access to CloudShell or query the CloudShell API (which should be authenticated and adds more complexity to your flow)that much just for images (images are stored in the database, and the CloudShell portal will/might have to "work hard" to fetch them if there is high(er) traffic on the public site).
Maybe, specifically in this case (maybe this API idea is still needed for other use cases), a different option is needed, which is to be able to provide a URL to an image for a blueprint in CloudShell instead of providing an image file (allow both options) and in your case you'll host these images on your external website (or even on a third place that both sites will use) and CloudShell users, going into the blueprints dashboard will then see images coming from that external server/s.
What do you think?

Is this idea being considered? Dan provided some background on his usecase for this API call! Would love to see if this would be possible through the Sandbox API!
Hi @jacoadam, can you also relate to my reply and see if it makes sense? (the reply that was posted on April 26th).

Hi, right now this is not planned for the Sandbox API since as far as we know this functionality would not be useful for most of our users. If anyone in the community is interested in this please vote. The workaround that Yaniv suggested is indeed an alternative.

Maya
